Advisory: First Patients Moved to Children’s of Alabama’s Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children

WHO:            Patients and families of Children’s of Alabama, clinical staff, hospital leadership and specialized moving planners.

WHAT:           A carefully planned move of patients from several patient floors of Children’s McWane Building to the just-completed Benjamin Russell                   Hospital for Children a block north. The building opens for care Saturday.

WHERE:       1600 7th Ave. S., Birmingham 35233

Media should gather in the main lobby of Children’s McWane Building to be escorted to patient floors in both buildings. Complimentary parking in the 7th Ave. parking deck and some street parking is available.

WHEN:         Saturday, Aug. 4, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. only

WHY:           After three years of construction, the 750,000-square-feet, 12-story Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children is complete and ready for its first patients. Moving hospitalized children – many of whom are seriously, even critically ill or injured – is no easy task. Every detail of the move has been planned and will be coordinated to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Recorded footage of the move will be available for download and broadcast via the links below no later than 2 p.m. Saturday. Media outlets are encouraged to download the content and share via newscast and website.
