Community Outreach & Partnerships

While thousands of families come visit the hospital every year seeking care for everything from sprained ankles to complicated brain surgery, Children’s also reaches out to the community to share advice and instruction on how best to keep children safe and healthy.

  • Southeast Child Safety Institute – Community and patient education on injury prevention is provided through the SECSI’s outreach programs including car seat installations, school programs and special community safety events.
  • Baby Safety Showers – Safety experts from the Injury Free Coalition for Kids host safety showers that include all the aspects of a traditional baby shower from cute decorations and tasty refreshments to gifts for the new moms and mothers-to-be. Guests are educated on a variety safety issues to help keep their babies protected from unnecessary injury.
  • Car seat checks – Certified child safety seat installers hold car seat inspections and installations every Tuesday at Children’s free of charge. Appointments are required.

Children’s also enjoys strong partnerships with a variety of companies and organizations throughout the state of Alabama that provide support for the boys and girls treated at the state’s only freestanding pediatric hospital, including fundraising events and special occasions such as visits from the Birmingham Zoo, Hand-in-Paw therapy teams, Birmingham Barons baseball players, the Regions Tradition Golf Tournament and the annual holiday Sugar Plum Shop.
